At 691 feet tall, the Winthrop Center has officially claimed the title of the tallest tower in Boston's Financial District. A New Icon in the Skyline
The Winthrop Center stands out with its sleek, glassy facade and a unique fluted crown that glows at night, making it a striking addition to Boston's skyline. The tower, completed in June 2023, features 53 stories and encompasses nearly 1.9 million square feet of space, including 812,000 square feet of office space and 317 high-end condominiums. The design cleverly integrates a civic-scale connector at ground level, which links two major streets and houses various retail and dining options, creating a vibrant community space.
Setting New Standards for Energy Efficiency
What truly sets the Winthrop Center apart is its commitment to sustainability. The development aims to achieve LEED Gold certification for its residential component, while the office space aims for WELL Gold and LEED Platinum certifications. Most notably, it has achieved Passive House certification, making it the world's largest Passive House office building. This standard emphasizes energy efficiency, ensuring that the building uses significantly less energy for heating and cooling than traditional structures.
Millennium's director of sustainable development, Brad Mahoney, highlights the strategic choice to pursue Passive House standards, noting its appeal to companies with strong environmental goals. This approach has already attracted a range of tenants, including firms in banking and consulting, with 60% of the office space either occupied or committed.

The office floors feature expansive layouts with 12-foot ceilings, large windows, and east-facing terraces, promoting a bright, airy work environment.
